Eye diseases cover a wide range of conditions and can have different symptoms, causes and treatment methods. Here are some of the common eye diseases:
Cataract: It is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye and can blur vision. Aging, trauma, genetic factors and certain diseases can contribute to the development of cataracts.
Glaucoma: An eye disease characterized by optic nerve damage due to an increase in intraocular pressure inside the eye. It is usually asymptomatic in the early stages and can cause permanent vision loss when it progresses.
Macular degeneration: It is characterized by damage to the macula in the center of the retina and is usually age-related. It can lead to loss of central vision.
Diabetic retinopathy Diabetes causes damage to the vessels in the retina of the eye. In advanced stages, it can cause vision loss.
Conjunctivitis Inflammation of the conjunctiva, which covers the white of the eye. It can be caused by infections, allergies or exposure to irritants.
Dry eye syndrome: A condition in which the surface of the eye is not sufficiently moisturized and can cause symptoms such as redness, burning, stinging and blurred vision.

Curiosities About Eye Health
Regular examinations are very important for people who wear glasses. The age of the patient is also of great importance for eye health. If the patient is over the age of 20 and has a different eye disease, he/she should have an eye examination once a year.
In addition, if the patient is between the ages of 10 and 20 and wears glasses, it will be sufficient to have an eye examination every six months. Patients under 10 years of age and wearing glasses should be examined every three months.
A baby born within the normal birth period and at a normal weight should definitely have an eye examination within the first month. Especially in one-month-old babies, it is necessary to check whether there is strabismus in the eyes, whether there is a cataract problem and retinal reflex control.
The appropriate time for a second eye examination in babies is recommended as the 6th month. However, if there is a different problem in your baby’s eyes, it should be re-examined at an earlier period.
Advancing age is one of the most important factors for cataracts. Especially in studies conducted on patients, it is seen that cataract problems are more common after the age of 50. However, it is known that people with diabetes also experience cataract problems in early periods.
People who smoke a pack of cigarettes or more daily are 10 times more likely to develop cataracts than healthy individuals. Obesity and poor quality nutrition are also among the causes of cataracts.
Strabismus is known as an eye disease that can definitely be treated. However, before surgical intervention in the treatment of strabismus, firstly, treatment is applied with the use of glasses according to the strabismus condition.
If no results are obtained in the treatment of strabismus despite the regular use of glasses within the period recommended by the doctor, surgical intervention is used. In this way, the strabismus problem can be permanently treated after appropriate surgical intervention.
There are approximately 1.5 million nerve fibers in the retina, one of the most important parts of the eye. The retina is the network layer that provides vision. For this reason, congenital or acquired diseases occurring in the retina are directly related to the ability to see.
However, when retinal diseases are examined, it is seen that many people have this health problem hereditarily. Retinal diseases may also occur due to different diseases in the future.
Excimer laser is definitely one of the most reliable methods in the treatment of eye diseases. However, it is not possible to talk about zero risk in Excimer laser method as in every type of operation.
However, the general health condition of the person and the extent of the discomfort in the eyes are also very important to get a quality response from the treatment. It is possible to say that the risks of the Excimer laser method are much lower compared to other laser treatment methods.
